The fashion industry’s essential business titles

The buyers are a collection of fashion magazines dedicated to the womenswear, menswear and childrenswear industry. With a print circulation that covers over 20,000 retailers, buyers, manufacturers, agents and suppliers. I was part of an in-house design studio that worked across the buyers. Working together with the editorial team to design visually stunning editorial layouts that would captivate the reader.

As part of an in-house design studio I designed editorial layouts for the fashion industry’s essential business titles. These titles include Womenswear Buyer, Menswear Buyer, Childrenswear Buyer, Lingerie Buyer and Footwear & Fashion Extras magazine. Each title published up to 11 times a year and covering up to 7,000 retailers, buyers, manufacturers, agents and suppliers.

Designing the essential magazines for the fashion industry

With 70% readership in the UK, the design of the magazine titles needed to appeal to owners of independents and department stores across the UK and Europe. Ths template for each magazine was based on a 12 column grid. This allowed the flexibility to design the layouts for each title with complete creative freedom.

The buyers were designed specifically to appeal to retailers and suppliers in the womenswear, menswear and childrenswear industries.

To design the editorial layouts within the magazines I paired imagery from a range of men’s, women’s and children’s latest collections with beautifuly paired typefaces. For Womenswear Buyer a modern sans-serif font is paired with a classic serif font to create a great combination. Using the serif font for the body copy, it also pairs well with the sans-serif for giving contrast to the headings.

Designing editorial layouts with beautiful fashion photography

The flexibility of the templates for each magazine allowed me to create a wide range of layouts for features such as essential business news, interviews, features, photoshoots, show previews and reviews for the likes of Scoop London, Jacket Required, Bubble London and Moda UK.
