An annual review for a registered charity that transforms historic buildings

The Architectural Heritage Fund

The Architectural Heritage Fund (AHF) are a registered charity that promote conservation and help communities in disadvantaged areas find ways of reusing historic buildings.

By offering advice, grants and loans they can help communities find ways of revitalising old buildings that they love. The AHF have been the leading social investor in creating new futures for historic buildings for over 40 years.

Our design thinking

We were approached by Cohere Partners in late 2018 to create an annual review design for the AHF. The AHF produce a review each year to give an update on how they have supported local communities and charities to find new and sustainable uses for old properties.

Designing an annual review for an heritage fund

The brief for the annual review design was that it needed to list the four objectives for the year in easy to read sections. With objectives that include helping local communities, inspire the startup growth of community enterprises and attract more investment.

Committed to funding and supporting the sustainable reuse the UK’s architectural heritage.

The design solution

Tasked with creating the annual review, we kicked the project off by researching the AHF. Looking into who they are, their strategic aims and what the brands core values are. We were provided with the existing brand logo, colour palette and the brand visual guidelines document to follow. Additionally, the previous year’s review was given to us for a point of reference.

Selecting a typeface that matches their brand logo

With a vibrant colour palette of yellow and red currently in place, we looked at adding a second colour palette. Selecting a palette of green, blue, brown and orange to outline the four main objectives. Once the colour palette was in place we moved onto looking at the typography.

Looking to create a cohesive look, we used a modern sans serif for both the headings and the body copy. Particularly matching the typography to the brand logo. Therefore gives this review a cohesive look that matches all brand touchpoints.
